Hey. It's me again.

I'm sitting at my computer desk amongst books and copies of my EP, random chords and technological devices that are all shoved to the corner of my ill-sized bedroom that can currently only fit a twin sized bed. A lot is going through my head. So much so, that I find it a bit difficult to sort through it all and type only the important things out to whoever's reading this now.

I have a newspaper interview tomorrow morning and my first real "band practice" tomorrow night. I'm toying with the idea of adding a couple more tracks to my current 4 song EP, while trying to mentally prepare for the performances I have coming up this weekend.

My album, of course, is weighing on me. As it always is. I'm in a rut as far as producing goes. And with this week's upcoming events it's hard to focus on recording- which apparently I've fooled myself into believing needs the utmost undivided attention. Well, maybe it does. But at the rate I'm going, this seems impossible.

This is my life.

In the past- well, the more recent past- I have kept my blog to only reporting positive and exciting things. However, I have neglected to include the nitty gritty. Which is what I honestly enjoy writing about the most. The heart of it. The feelings. Which sometimes includes struggle. It's not all glamorous. Trust me. I know this now. I can say this because I know now that I did not really realize it before.

Just because things are looking up and progressing- even rapidly- doesn't mean that will hold true.

The situation constantly changes. That's what life is. A series of changes.

I have come to find this pretty organically, and ripe at the age of seventeen. I've learned this from a small dose of the music business. But also, like most people: from relationships, personal goals that start out different then how they end up, making decisions and un-making those decisions, trying something that doesn't end up working and then taking a completely different path...

I don't have everything figured out. That's all I've figured out.

I like to refer to the stage I'm in right now as "the in-between." I'm fresh out of high school, finished with my past as I know it, and onto explore my future... the rest of my life.

Put it like that and it sounds pretty daunting.

I know I'm not the only one. And maybe that's why I feel a sort of duty to write this right now. If you're in the same position as me, and heck, even if you still have years to go before your grad or yours was years ago, just stop. That's right, stop. Look around you. Where are you right now? Breathe in. Close your eyes if you want. Exhale. Who are you thankful for? Who do you love? What do you love?

For this one moment, you're allowed to be selfish. Think about your life. Think about your favorite memories.

We're so lucky to even be alive. There is so much this world has to offer. It's only a matter of taking it all in... letting it all in. Appreciating it.

This has been something I've made a conscious effort to include in my mind set, and with everything going on lately it has honestly been hard to maintain.

Things in my life have been... shifting. Even if I am only referring to what's been going on in my head. For me as a person, it's been crucial.

To tell the truth, I have no idea where I'll end up or what I'll be doing next year. Or the year after that. I have an idea of what I'd like to be doing, but I have no security in telling if it'll be successful or not. Or if something else doesn't come up.... But as someone who I think to be wise and someone who is close to me said, "No one does."

"You like to plan everything, don't you?"

I don't know if I like to. It's just been some kind of reflex I haven't tried to prevent.

When you get down to it- the "nitty gritty"- all that really matters are the things that are so easy to take for granted. Family, friends, passion, fulfillment, health, happiness... Most of everything else is irrelevant. I for one, want to spend my days filling these parts of my life out. Whether that ends up including a performing career or one in writing or.. who knows?!

As long as I'm happy. That's all that matters.

I extend my best wishes to all fellow graduates and soon-to-be grads.

I must sign off before I get carried away with another closely related subject. That I can save for next time.

Change

Spent all night working on my new song I'm so excited about. Recorded the guitar, tweaked the drum/beat tracks and started playing around with bass parts.

It seems to be coming together!

Things have shifted in just a day- as far as this summer and my music goes. But, in a positive way.

We've been brainstorming ideas for a new music video. I love what we have so far.

You might notice less of me on the web for the next while. But for me, this is also a positive thing. I'm most productive this way.

I feel like I need to get away. Just... immerse myself in music... my own little world. I've been so distracted lately.

So, I suppose this is my little goodbye. I'll be back to check in every now and then though. And when I come back, who knows, maybe I'll have something to show for it.

Can't guarantee anything. The game always changes.

Singing in the Rain

'Twas what I did last night, and what I'll probably be doing for the rest of this week.

I honestly don't mind the rain. In fact, I kind of like it. It's refreshing and relaxing... and peaceful. BUT, it is not useful on days when I'm supposed to busk.

Do you know how dead it is downtown when it's raining? VERY DEAD. People are fleeing the streets, not flocking to them as usual!

I am scheduled to busk downtown all this week (including tonight) as apart of the Victoria International Busker's Festival and it's supposed to be cold and raining all this week as well. These two things DO NOT mix. Hopefully, the weather will have a change of heart. I know many are disappointed in its actions as of late. Doesn't feel very summery.

Even though it was raining (very hard, I may add) the Langford Days Festival went well! I had fun, for sure. I met these two little girls, Amber and Katrina, who were very enthusiastic about my music. It was adorable. I "premiered" my new song, sold some of my EPs. Everyone was very welcoming and supportive.

It was quite lovely- despite the circumstances.

Now, I'll be busking downtown (come on, weather!!) and working on some new music. :) YAY.

I also should be prepping for my first performance coming up with accompaniment. More news on that later!

Gotta go and get my day started.

Writing, recording, promoting, performing, practicing, organizing, booking, researching, producing...

The ball has certainly started rolling on this whole... "music business" thing.

It's quite hectic- but exciting!

I have some fun gigs coming up, including the Victoria International Busker's Festival 2011, Langford's Walmart Grand Opening, the 9th Annual Langford Days Summer Festival, Capital Festival's BC Day Celebration 2011 at St. Anne's Academy and some soon-to-be confirmed dates in Parksville.

I've started creating events through my facebook page where you can RSVP to my gigs that are open to the public. It's a great way to let everyone know when/where I'm playing.

Other than performing, I've also been heavy into producing and writing, which are steps to completing my first "proper" album. I'm SUPER excited for you to hear it, though. I can hardly wait! ^^

But, you- and I- will have to be a bit patient. :P

Staying up late that night was one of the best decisions I've made. I ended up writing a song I'm REALLY excited about. I've already started producing it, cause I feel so strongly that it should be released right away.

Lovin' Summer '11

I am indeed loving summer. ^^

HELLO THERE! It's only the beginning of July, but I feel like I've already done so much this summer. I've gone on a road trip, I've played gigs, I've been swimming, I've been to summer markets & the inner harbour, I've gone on hikes, I've stayed up late with friends- all in all, Summer '11 has been a kind friend!

I still have some gigs coming up- hopefully a lot more. But other than that, I'm really focused on my music. I've been working more and more on my album and my live performance too. I'm looking into having some accompaniment, which will be really cool! I've only played with other musicians a few times. So, I'm excited for that. I always want to be progressing and I think this is just what I need to do that.

I posted some pictures my cousin took of my performance in Campbell River for their Canada Day Celebration on Facebook. You can take a look at them here.:) That's where I'll be posting all of my photos for the next while. Also, check out my website! It's new!

A lot of things are new right now. But I like that. Which is good, because that's the music business for you: constantly changing. I better get used to it! I'm going to take my own advice. "Go with the flow. Do things as they come." That's what I've been doing this summer. And I'd say it's been working. :-)

I should have some more news on upcoming shows and progress on my album soon. So, don't be a stranger!

For My Memory (PROM)

Prom was certainly worth blogging about.

So, let's begin!

We had a photo shoot before leaving,

We pulled out all the stops for prom,

including a limo!

My mum organized our prom this year.

There was lots to see and lots to do!

There was a live rock band (which was SO FUN),

and karaoke- also FUN. ^^

There was a photo booth

and multiple photo stations.

There was friends- and for me, family as well.

It really was a night to remember.

:) And that's just what I'll do.

All of these graduation celebrations... there's a special place in my memory where I'll be keeping them.

Plus, pictures, videos, blog posts and journal entries help.

Graduation Day

This past weekend was my graduation ceremony and this upcoming weekend is PROM!

"SO MUCH HAPPY!" ^^

I have about a week of high school left and the events to countdown the end are nothing short of AWESOME. The Graduation Ceremony went without a hitch. I, along with two of my grade 12 friends, performed the grad song I wrote called "Not Giving In."

We performed for both of our grad class' ceremonies, so we got to see everyone graduate. :)

Afterwards and before we took pictures outside, modeling our highly attractive long blue gowns and square hats. ;) It was fun. :]

It was a beautiful, exciting day filled with my favorite people! What could be better?

Seriously though, I was honestly more excited for our graduation ceremony than I was for prom. Something about it... it seemed more special to me. More meaningful anyway. And to play the song I wrote about it... I'll never forget that day.

And I'm glad I have pictures of it to jog my memory. :P You know, for when I'm old and withered away.

As I said, I have about a week left of high school and as much as I can't wait for this summer and all the summer's after that and all the months to come in between, I'm going to savor these last few days as much as I can. Not because I'm going to miss school, but because it's still a part of my life and I don't plan on wasting any part of my life.

I'm ready and excited for what's to come, but I'm also living in the moment.

So, it's prom, exams, year end BBQ- and that's it, FOREVER.

'Twas a good day, I'd say.

Friends make things better. As well as a positive attitude. Note to self: keep both of these in my life. always.

There's a month left of school and it's gonna be a busy month. As much as I am excited and eager to graduate, I also want to savor this last month of high school. Unlike many others, I don't plan to go to college. So, this is the end of school- but not the end of my education. Certainly not the end of learning.

There's plenty more of that to come.

I'm looking forward to the near future, but I will do my best to enjoy the simple "carefree" days of high school I have left.

Who knows, maybe I will miss it.

Cooking day: chicken chow mein!

My brother and I made dinner tonight. :)

This never happens, but it will now. We plan to make dinner every Monday and Wednesday.

Today, our first day, we made chicken chow mein. It looks like a pizza because my brother decided to shape it that way. Apparently all of our dishes must be shaped like triangles.

No, I don't find that weird. And yes, I'm okay with it.

I've been writing a lot lately. Apparently I have a lot to say.

Tonight- just now- I wrote these lyrics to what could possibly be my first dance song. Weird I know. But, I suppose any song can be turned into a dance song. April 9th I played for everyone involved in the TOMS One Day Without Shoes: Barefoot walk in the park. It was nice. They were nice. :)

April 21st was my performance at Off the Grid (music, art and sustainability expo). My whole school walked over to where it was being held and I was very appreciative of how supportive everyone was. Playing in front of your peers can be very nerve racking.

April 17th and 28th I performed for the Liberal Party. I don't have any pictures of the 17th, which I should have because it was much bigger, but the 28th (as seen above) was held in a super fancy hotel downtown. We were on the eighth floor and the view was incredible. From the Parliament building to the ocean- I love where I live. ^^

So, there's a bit of catching up. I have not been idle, even though it may have appeared that way.

Music is something I will always be doing. It's one thing I actually have figured out in life. For me, it is constant. It's reliable. Everyone needs something like that.

Well, it's past noon on my last day of the weekend. I have things to do, so I'll write later.

In limbo

Today has been... I don't even know if I can decide on a word to describe it.

It's been... eye-opening, sad, emotional, sunny (yeah, I'll throw that in there to lighten things up) and... that's all I can come up with right now.

I was going to clean my room, like I usually do every weekend. I was going to finish some school work, again like normal. I was going to play some music, figure out a set list for my school's upcoming Indie Night. Instead of doing these things, I went outside. I went outside and sat there. I thought about things. I thought about my life: how it used to be and how it is now. There are so many things in my life right now that I am thankful for, but I do have this overwhelming feeling of loss, that today, got the better of me.

I didn't quite realize how upset I still am about losing someone who meant- still means- so much to me until today.

Until today I simply focused on other parts of my life. I worked on my music. I worked on other friendships with other friends. I kept myself busy with school. Today though, I let myself think about it again. This was both a good idea and a bad idea.

I caught myself off guard. I didn't even know that was possible.

Something must be done. I must do something about it. I cannot deny that there is something missing in my life. Something that was once there. I've written several songs about it. It keeps coming back. There's this empty void. It's really bothering me.

Now that I know what the problem is, I must face the hardest part and that is figuring out how to fix it. Or even begin fixing it. Maybe I'm making it seem harder than it really is... It's been so long now though...

I apologize for being extremely vague, but this is about someone. I can't disclose information like that publicly. It's not fair.

I was reading old blog entries, very old blog entries, entries I posted over a year ago- even two years ago and venting my feelings on situations like this (and even particularly this very situation) is a trend. It really helps me though. Even right now I feel a bit better. It's nice to be able to get my thoughts out.

Like I've said before, blogging really does help me. It's important that I keep doing it. As you may know already, I have been writing in a journal every day since my 17th birthday this year, which has also been great, but there's something about blogging. I suppose it has to do with being published for anyone to see, the possibility that my thoughts and feelings could help someone else out as well. I've written about the blogging community and how amazing I think it is, and I still stand by that. It's amazing how the simple act of writing what you think and sharing it with like-minded people can have such a positive effect. I find it refreshing. I love it.

So, to recap, I feel like I'm in limbo. You know, that weird abandoned place you get banished to for years when you die in a dream within a dream within a dream.

You may have noticed that as of late I haven't been writing as frequently as I have in the past. This time it does have to do with my routine of writing in a journal everyday. Sadly, sometimes that takes over and comes before blogging. But, I've been going strong with it. Lately, I've been writing several pages a day.

I apologize for the sporadic-ness of this entry. I just haven't been in the blog posting zone lately. I have, however, been in... other zones. Journal writing, rug buying (that's correct, rug as in for my bedroom floor), movie with friends watching, gigging, jamming, recording, playing with harmonizing (I'm getting slightly better at it), being outside with friends, eating.

I like food. Have I mentioned that?

Life is full of lovely things. I'm enjoying what it has to offer while I can.

Greetings.

It's a quiet Monday afternoon, I'm sitting at my computer amongst piles of used tissue, glasses of water & old iced tea bottles and clothes and unfolded laundry strewn about my bedroom...

What a pretty picture.

Spring break is over. I wouldn't be able to tell if it weren't for the return of cloudy weather, lack of facebook status' and quiet unease that surrounds me now. I'm at home, on a school day, because I am sick. Again. I know, it ain't right. It's not a sickness like the one I just previously experienced (you know, the one from HELL), just a ferociously runny nose paired with perpetual sneezing. Compared to what I went through about a month ago, it's quite lovely. Instead of being bitter, I'm thankful.

I'll be better before you know it. I'm planning on returning to my scholastic endeavors tomorrow. And no, I don't know why I'm so speaking so indulgently formal right now. You'll just have to go with it.

I'm really starting to feel like I'm graduating this year. The reality of it is actually beginning to kick in. All the graduation forms that need to be filled out, the preparations for the grad song (Not Giving In, which we're auditioning next Wednesday), prom dress shopping. That's right, my cousin, my mum and I finally did the deed. For me, it only took one store, one saleslady, and the first dress I tried on to pick mine. That may not sound smart, but I knew exactly what I was looking for. And I found it for a ridiculously awesome price in my size on the sale rack as a part of a sample sale in the colour I wanted, in the style I like- everything. It's perfect. :]

Yeah, things are getting serious. It's all really happening. And like I said, I can actually feel it now. It feels real- crazy, but real. :P

I've got about two and a half months of high school left and sure, a lot will change, but I think a lot will be the same- but better. For me, graduation means more time for me to do what I want, and that's music. I'll be playing like nobody's business. I'll have more time and energy to dedicate to everything revolving around that. And take my word for it, there's a lot. Being an artist; a musician and being in charge of that is running your own business. My craft is my business. And when I graduate I'll be able to put everything into that.

I'm excited. :) It's exciting! All the possibilities... Heck, I'm looking forward to this summer! ^^ It's my favorite!

I'm looking forward to what's to come. I'm looking forward to my last days of school with my friends, the graduation ceremony, prom, sunny weather, recording, experimenting, meeting new people, traveling... the list goes on and it's constantly expanding.

And I'm looking forward to sharing it with you, my loyal blog readers. :-) I've been blogging for... over two years now? And I don't plan on stopping. I've been blogging less partly because I'm writing in a journal everyday and partly because I can be lazy, but this is something that's good and something that I want to keep going.

I'm not going to promise that to you, or guarantee that I'll keep doing so, because things constantly change. But this is certainly a good thing I have going and like my music, my best friends and family, blogging is something I've naturally stuck with over the years, over periods of change- it's helped get me through those times; those changes. And that is so valuable to me.

So, thanks for being apart of something so great. :) Let's keep it going!

Life is grand. I'm relishing in it.

I know that things change inevitably, for the worse and for the better, so every time I hit a sweet spot I like to really recognize and enjoy it. I like to feel it. A book I read when I was younger said, "Being happy isn't having everything in your life be perfect. Maybe it's about stringing together all the little things- making those count for more than the bad stuff."

All the little things in my life are making me very happy, and that's really all that matters. That's really all I can ask for.

I want to blog more often. So, stay posted. I want to be seeing a lot more of you. :)

I'm not saying I dislike school that much, but realizing that I can now get up when I feel like it, do whatever I want and hopefully- if we're all really lucky- be apart of sunnier, warmer, nicer weather is an amazing feeling.

Reflecting (Sarah McLachlan concert, long weekend)

Howdy!

I haven't posted about seeing Sarah McLachlan yet, so here is that very post!

It was fantabulous. It was beautiful. It was meaningful and inspiring... It was wondrous! ^^

I'm now fully equipped with a new songbook (as seen above) and a bit more drive and reinforcement that music is what I want to do for a very, very, very long time.

It's Friday, 11:04 AM and I'm not in school. Thanks to a Pro-D Day we all have the day off. LONG WEEKEND, YESSSSS!

I have some things to do and some events to attend, so I'm very thankful for the extra day- and a half actually.

Hm. I don't really have much to say for myself right now. I could talk about how I've been in a weird... state.. for a little bit, but I'm sure that's boring. I'm just.. excited for what's to come.. I think. I'm weird and confused lately. Oh dear.

AT LAST!!

*I apologize for the following post, but what you must realize is the fact that I am a teenage girl*

Today, I went out shopping on a mission and came home, having successfully fulfilled that mission.

I purchased shoes. I purchased four pairs of shoes. I don't think I have ever done that- not in one shopping trip. It's the one part of my wardrobe I'm lacking in- well, not anymore!

Okay. I feel stupid. But, I did get the four pairs of shoes for a total of $60. Which is ridiculously good. Other shoes I saw were $60 EACH.

So, I am content. ^^

In other news of the day, it snowed. It's continuing to snow.

In other-other news, I'm happy. Right now, within the past couple of days, things have been happy. I have been partaking in happy things. I have more happy things to look forward to in the near future- one of those things being the SARAH MCLACHLAN CONCERT!! :D

I almost forgot about it actually. Then, it snuck up on my calendar. A pleasant surprise. :]

There are approx. four months of school left. Three, if you discount June- which doesn't really count. I guess there's really three and a half months of school left. It's crazy ._. But I think I'll choose to be excited instead of... I don't even know. Nervous, I guess.

It still is crazy though. The proper feelings won't fully settle in until it happens. Until I'm walking across the UVIC auditorium stage for my diploma, or until prom night when the last song plays...

Until it ends.

Whoa.

Well, my mum made cookies. Must go get some while they're fresh. Ahh, freshly baked cookies on a Saturday afternoon while snow gently settles on the ground outside.

Certainly a simple kind of bliss.

Hi again. I'm just starting to recover from one of the worst sicknesses I've ever been through- dare I say, in my entire life.

MY SYMPTOMS

nausea

high fever

a sore throat that's pain surpassed medication

congestion to the EXTREME

FLEM (gross, I know)

what might as well have been whooping cough

Needless to say, this past week has not been a fun one for me. And I have a lot of catching up to do.

I could still use today to rest. I can't believe I've been sick for this long. It really is a record for me. Usually I have the weekend at least to begin putting myself back together. Not this time.

I'm exhausted. Bring on the piles of missed school work!

Summing up the O'Siem BC Spirit Festival

Hey there!

I'M HAPPY! :) This weekend was the O'Siem BC Spirit Festival and it went SUPER well! I performed sets throughout Friday and Saturday, and one on the morning of the last day, which was today (Sunday).

My first dressing room (I felt special. And spoiled)

It was great! I felt really good about all of my performances and I got to meet some very cool new people throughout the process of the event. One of these "very cool new people" is a beautiful singer who I ended up jamming with (in my DRESSING ROOM, YEAHH) spontaneously after we were both finished performing for the day- or at least at the time we thought. We ended up having so much fun improving to one of my songs, "I Think I'm Ready," that we wanted to perform it on stage. Luckily, the head organizer (all of the entertainment's employer) John Selkirk is an awesomely understanding dude and let us go on on a whim!

Day #2 of the festival

IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! I've never done anything like it! Only once before have I performed music with someone on stage, and I've certainly never jammed with anyone and performed the product of that for an audience just a little while later- the whole experience was invigorating! And UH- harmonies are L O V E ! ! ^^

I guess this is how musicians get to working together. I've always wondered how songwriters co-write. I've never really related to what that would be like, since my songwriting is so personal. But after yesterday, working with another musically inclined friend, the idea doesn't seem so far away in my mind. I can definitely see working with some musicians in the not-so-distant future. A little harmonies.. some bass... maybe light percussion...

Cool beans :]

So, that was certainly a note-worthy part of the festival. Overall it was splendid! Nothing better than seeing friends, making new ones, experiencing new things (jamming and hot cross buns [there was a COBS Bread both :P]) and what I love doing most; playing my music.

Lovely, lovely, LOVELY! ♥

Can't wait for my next gig- which is coming up shortly! This summer, I'm going to make up for last summer. And you can hold me to that.

Completely letting go

How do I prepare for an upcoming gig? Well, I don't exactly have a sure-fire routine worked out, but this time around for the O'Siem BC Spirit Festival, I thought I'd get pumped by singing and dancing to my favorite songs- not my songs (i.e. songs I have written) but my favorite songs by other artists.

You see, I can get very tired of playing my songs over and over and over again. Take Play It Again, I've been playing it again for four years now.

._. yikes. I feel old.

Needless to say, I wasn't exactly rearing to play these old songs, yet again. I didn't know if I would find a way to get past that. I thought I would just end up dealing with it and in turn, get over it. BUT- of course, there is a but :P- tonight was

awesome :]

There's nothing quite like just completely letting go. The difference was, I wasn't worrying or concerning myself with how I sounded or my "stage etiquette," but rather just really enjoying the music. And that's what I really need to get back to. With everything really. I need to just enjoy what it is for what it is.

Too primitive?

Oh well. I'm just venting yet another realization or 'revelation.' Long story short: I'm excited for the Festival coming up. Mark your calendars, folks! :P Because I'm sure you're just as excited about it as I am! *sarcasm, if you didn't get that*

It should be fun though. :) If you do have the chance, do come by. Even if it's not when I'm playing. It's sure to be a great event.

Let me rephrase that- I've finished laying down all of the drum tracks for One, Nothing.

Tomorrow I plan to record the guitar for it and then it's on to the really fun part. Piling layers of beautiful sounds on top. Whatever I find suits the song... electric guitar perhaps... bass (that's a must), maybe some piano.. there are endless possibilities!

I don't feel like such a loser anymore. I'm no longer wandering aimlessly. No more procrastination. I'm not afraid of failure.

It feels so good.

My new found (or rather, re-found) confidence came just in time for semester two of my senior year. It's certainly a good way to start things off.

I'm so happy! I don't want to jinx it, but YEEESSSSS!!! ^^

I'm almost done laying down all of the drum tracks (which for me is the hardest part, ESPECIALLY when having to work with different tempos). I'm working on a song called "One, Nothing." If you've seen me busking or performing about a 45 minute set, then you've most likely heard this song.

I feel very good about getting this song done, because it's been weighing on me for months- as well as two others that I want to produce.

Finally, PROGRESS :]

This has been a breakthrough for me, because I've had a lot of trouble with producing this song in the past. It's been my first attempt at producing a song with multiple tempo changes- which can get very confusing. The key is to keep the flow of the song still intact, and I think I've FINALLY achieved this.

PERFORMING AGAIN ^^ (The O'Siem BC Spirit Festival)

I miss performing. DEARLY.

I haven't really performed in... way too long. I had a couple gigs this past summer, which is not near the amount I want to have this year.

Since I've realized I need to stop planning everything before I do it, that I need to be apart of things as they come- "go with the flow" more, I've been doing a lot of research on venues, open mics and gigs here in Victoria.

I want to perform again. So, that's just what I'll do :)

Next month, beginning February 11th, I'll be playing half hour sets throughout the weekend of the O'Siem BC Spirit Festival.

Just what the doctor ordered :]

*Note that this is the first time my name has been included on a poster in BIG letters. :D I'm not even listed LAST! That in itself is a first! :P THANK YOU JOHN!! (He's the Festival's Artistic Director- he hired me)

I'm very excited to perform again. This time I'm not going to let school stop me, or pressures about my album, or anything else. If I want to perform, then that's what I'll do. Every little thing doesn't need to be lined up to share my music- that I already have- with people who are willing to listen. That's what performing is.

I'll have my EP (of four songs) available at the Festival.

I repeat: I am excited.

I'll post more on this when I hear of more info (what times I'm playing, etc..) For now, visit the Festival's website and my website for more details on exactly when and where the event is occurring.

Semester one: CHECK!

What's been going on lately?

Well...

As semester one was coming to end,

it got REALLY windy :P

I visited my cousin at her favorite place to be,

and studied hard core for my English LIT final.

On the second last day of the first semester

we had a pizza party in the hallway we hang out in! :)

I convinced two friends to start their own blogs,

which they added to during our 2 1/2 hour last writing class. We also wrote a very impressive poem which is now hanging at the front of the writing classroom. ^^

After writing my English LIT final, semester one was officially over. In other words- we're halfway through grade twelve, a.k.a. our graduating year ._.

The last Drama class EVER (for me and a few others) was a bit emotional. It was, in fact, the end of a five year streak.

I rode home that day (the last day of the first semester) alone for one of the first times on the bus. I ended up- well, doing what you see below. I couldn't keep from laughing out loud for quite a while, which turned a few heads.

After going home and checking my facebook (isn't that everyone's regular routine?), I found my Grampz had uploaded the pictures he took of my play. This is my favorite one :) My cast pointing to me in the audience to stand up.

Good memories :]

So, semester one is over. As I said before, WE'RE HALFWAY THROUGH THE SCHOOL YEAR- OUR GRADUATING YEAR.

Oh dear.

Today was/is day number one of a week of resting my voice.

Lately (for a few months now) my voice has been haggard. I don't know if I've mentioned this here, in my blog, but it has.

:( sadface.

In hopes of fixing it I am going to rest it properly for a week (this means no yelling, screaming, heavy laughter, etc..) and see if that helps to improve it at all. Hopefully it will. I will also properly warm-up before I sing and drink tea before singing as well for the first while. Thankfully, I actually like tea now.

Apparently, I like "old man" tea. I was told today that Earl Grey tea was named after a political leader of some sort... Looking it up now on Wikipedia (which is thankfully still free, YAY!) I can confirm this and add more specifically that it was named after a British Prime Minister, Earl Grey the 2nd.

HMMMM.. Very interesting!

I drink an Earl Grey tea that tastes like orange and vanilla. ^_^ Mmmm, HAPPY! I can enjoy caring for my voice!

So, I'll let you know how it goes. No screaming and heavily laughing for a week might prove to be difficult for me to stick to... But I want my voice to be better, so whatever it takes.

This is my third blog post of the day. TEE HEE =3 It's a bit unusual for me to post so often, but I could use some "unusual" lately.

Tonight my mum and I watched Imogen Heap's "Everything In-Between- The Story of Ellipse." It's a DVD comprised of documentation of about three years of her life writing, struggling, producing and releasing her latest record, Ellipse.

I bought the movie on iTunes so now I can be inspired over and over and over again. :] Because I did find it very inspiring- which I need desperately right now.

I related to her struggles with deadlines (they kill, PUNNY), her ambition and her unwillingness to compromise her work.

It spoke to me (especially right now) because I'm stuck in one of the stages she was stuck in while making her album. To see her overcome that by working so hard and pushing forward gave me a bit of a wake up call.

I really want this. But lately, I haven't been acting like it. I need to get myself back in that headspace, back in the game- if you will.

To do this, I just need to simply try.

I don't think I have been lately. I could blame it on being bombarded with other seemingly more pressing things like school, my play, friends, life, etc... But I need to do this more than a lot of other things I've been replacing it with.

I really think my lack of progress with my record and my music is weighing on me- this is negative, of course. One of the best feelings for me is to work on something (I can work on producing a song for as long as seven hours straight) and have something to show for myself. Lately, I've been feeling (not to sound too... emo BUT) useless.

It's invigorating to create something out of nothing. It's exciting to grow and achieve goals that you truly and earnestly want to achieve.

My voice is haggard and my body and mind is tired. Tonight I'll take it easy, go to bed early. Tomorrow, I plan to really try with my album and the songs I've been working on for it.

I'm gonna start to give it a good go. (How's that for an alliteration?) ^^

It's a quiet Saturday morning. Only half of our house is awake. It's a nice change from this past week, which was pretty busy.

My play was performed along with five other plays. It went great :) My dad filmed it, which I'm thankful for as I want to remember the only play I ever wrote (play's aren't really my writing style). Maybe I should find a way to post it somewhere for you guys to see... It's about 20 minutes long though, so I don't know if YouTube can host it. BUT, it is original content so it won't be TAKEN DOWN DUE TO "COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT."

Anyway, the performances were a lot of fun. Of course I wasn't performing in any of them, but to see something I wrote come to life like that was a very cool feeling. And even though I wasn't the one (this time) who was up on stage, I was still pretty nervous for my actors. :P They did a fantastic job though! I was/still am very pleased and proud with the final product. :]

The whole experience was different for me. The performance night was a change from usual performance nights for me because a) I wasn't on stage like I said before and b) I was a part of a group- a team. Usually all I have to worry about/count on is myself. This time I had a group of people behind me, working towards the same thing.

That was different, nice. :)

The whole experience was a unique one. Props to Ms. Young (our acting teacher) and Ms. Frodsham (our writing teacher) for putting it on!

Now that the plays are over with, there's only a week left of the first semester- our last first semester of OUR LIVES. =O Unless we fail, I guess. :P Oh and for those who are going to college, not so much. lol.

Half of the school year is almost over. I'm excited for next semester and a bit weirded out by the idea of this thing I've been going to ten months a year, five days a week since I was a toddler coming to an end.

How's that for a new and different experience?

New untitled song (possible grad ceremony song)

I'm out my slump. It would appear anyway. :)

I finally wrote a song. I started and finished it last night and I am very relieved. It's been about over a month since I finished a song (all I have in my songbook are like... 10 verses- all of which weren't going anywhere). I was trying to force creativity. I would attempt to write a song on a certain topic, because at the time I didn't know what I was inspired by, and it didn't lead anywhere. I was faking creativity. This time however, it was real.

It didn't take long after I stumbled upon a topic I was legitimately interested in to form a song about it. This topic wasn't decided before hand, it just ended up coming out of my mouth attached to the piano riff I was playing. Which is how all of my good songs are formed.

I feel like I got my mojo back. =] I feel right again.

I don't have a title for this new song, but I do like/appreciate the lyrics as they are pressing to myself and others my age right now. It's about the future, which is something we're all if not worrying, thinking heavily about. It's uplifting, which is nice. Before this latest bout of writer's block I was finding myself only writing negatively. For instance, one chorus I came up with was called "Wasting Away," another "Lost and Found." Not bad songs (or starts of songs) when I think back on them, but this one, for me at least, is much more refreshing. And needed at this point in my life.

Not only for myself, but for others graduating from high school and experiencing doubt in themselves and concerns about their future.

Before I begin, a message for all of you (if you don't find one in this song)- Don't rush. You have the rest of your life ahead of you. What's a year compared to that? Or two years?

Well hello there,

Today it snowed. Numerous amounts of people thought I had gotten a haircut (but I didn't). Two other fellow play writers and I got interviewed for a newspaper article. I felt sick at times. I laughed a good amount. I read more of "The Happiness Project" and was enlightened. I drank a lot of water. I started and completed a LIT assignment.

And I felt awful watching more on the shooting that happened in Arizona.

Just another day in the life.

I actually worked on my album today. I KNOW. I didn't really get anywhere... Not really. But, at least I'm back at it. That's certainly progress.

School's tomorrow. It's bittersweet. I'll most likely be blogging less :( but hopefully producing more :) I repeat: it's bittersweet.

So, as you may have already heard, it's

2011!!!

I've been online this afternoon after saying goodbye to friends who spent the night after our little New Years gathering, and I've been reading a lot of New Years tweets, blog posts, facebook status', etc.

One blog post that I found through facebook was Michelle Branch's list of things to do in the New Year. It's not a huge list, but the things on it are wonderfully exciting. So wonderfully exciting that I wanted to write such a list of my own.

So here we go,

My list of things to do in the New Year:

-Drink more water.

-Go outside for the sake of going outside.

-Get better at piano.

-Finish my album.

-PLAY GIGS (busking, festivals, open mics, schools, etc..)

-Go on more spontaneous adventures.

*BONUS- Renovate my room

:) I think I'm satisfied with that.

Seasons greetings!

It's 6:25 PM, Christmas Eve Eve, and mouses are very much stirring.

Everyone in my house is busy with something. My mum's making dinner. My dad's watching the news while talking with my brother, who's most likely on his iPhone. And my cousin is probably on his laptop... looking up something. I'm guessing all of these things, well just the last two, because I'm in a separate room. I'm hidden away in my bedroom with my cats, typing up this new blog post.

What do I have to say for myself? Well, I really want to get my album done. Above all else, it's what I REALLY want to accomplish.

Now I know what you're saying, "Then why don't you?" Well, because... I'm weird?

lol.

Because I've hit a tough spot. I'm having difficulty with the last three songs I want to produce for it. I know. ONLY THREE. I've completed eight already, and then there are two more that are acoustic.

I'm almost there ._.

While that's a very inspiring thought, it's also pretty discouraging at the same time. I just can't seem to get past these three songs. I've started a couple, and I haven't even thought of the third one...

It's mildly overwhelming. Which sounds silly, but it's true. Well, I think it is.

The reason I'm bringing this up is, well, because it's the thing that's always on my mind. Has been for years, really. And especially because right now is a very good time for me to really work on it. It's Winter break, we get a few weeks off from school. It's the 4th day of the break today, and what have I done?

I wrapped presents.

That's about the most productive thing I did. Actually, that's not true. I did completely revamp my blog (nice, isn't it? :]) and my Myspace page. (Check it!) So now I can feel like a bit less of a loser. But still no very important progress. I keep just banging my head against the wall.

I'm waiting for a breakthrough.

I'm working with Garageband to produce my album, and so far it's gone great. But lately, as you know- RUT.

I HATE WORKING WITH DIFFERENT TEMPOS. In fact, I can't seem to get any tempos right for any of these songs, even if there's no change in them!

Well, tomorrow's Christmas Eve. Doubt I'll get anything done then. I'll be helping my mum cook Christmas dinner for our annual Christmas Eve family dinner. Everyone's coming in.

...You know, two years ago during the Christmas break is when I produced You'll Never Know. Everyone in our house was sick except for me and my dad. I basically hid away in my room for a week. That's when I produced the first song to go on my album two years later... I did it just for fun. Maybe that's the difference now. I'm forcing myself...

Well, that doesn't help much.

If I don't post before Christmas than MERRY CHRISTMAS! Or Happy Hanukkah or Kwanza!

That's the chorus to a holiday song I wrote three years ago. The only holiday song I've written.

These aren't new lyrics. I wrote this song about two years ago. After listening to John Mayer's "In Your Atmosphere" I was immensely inspired. This is the product of that inspiration mixed with my feelings at the time- feelings that I relate to right now.
